Some rangers specialise in the two handed mechanical beast that is the Crossbow. Essentially the midpoint between bows and Firearms, the Crossbow Ace blends the two into it’s own combat style
Crossbow Ace is an archetype of Ranger
Ace Crossbow Smith
At 1st level, the Crossbow Ace gains Rapid Reload as a bonus feat. In addition, the Crossbow Ace starts with a battered light crossbow, that they specialise in and improve. This Ace Crossbow has the broken condition for anyone else. The Crossbow Ace gains Gunsmithing, but can use it for Crossbows and Crossbow Bolts. The Ace Crossbow can have firearm modifications fitted to it, as if it was a firearm. They can also upgrade the Ace Crossbow to a Heavy Crossbow by spending 8 hours and the price difference. They can also upgrade it to masterwork for normal cost, before or after upgrading from light to heavy. If done before, the masterwork stays applied..
This ability replaces Ranger Style
Crossbow Talents**
In addition to the normal Ranger Talents, Crossbow Aces can also select the following Crossbow Talents:
Crossbowblade Training: The Crossbow Ace gains Gunblade Training as a bonus feat, and can create a Ranged Gunblade utilizing the Hand Crossbow’s statistics as the ranged component, which functions with all Ranger features, using the Gunsmithing rules. (This currently does nothing as gunblades are not implemented, but is here for future use)
This ability modifies Ranger Talents
Crossbow Training (Ex)
Starting at 3th level, a crossbow ace improves with their Ace Crossbow. She gains a bonus on damage rolls equal to her Dexterity modifier with that crossbow. Furthermore, when she scores a critical hit with that type of crossbow, her critical modifier increases by 1 (a x2 becomes a x3, for example).
This ability replaces either the favoured enemy or the favoured terrain gained at 3rd level. (The one you choose to keep still upgrades at each increment, even if you choose the other option at later levels.)
Deadshot (Ex)
At 6th level, when a crossbowman attacks with a crossbow as a readied action, he may add 1/2 his Dexterity bonus (minimum +1) on his damage roll.
This ability replaces either the favoured enemy or the favoured terrain gained at 6th level.
Improved Deadshot (Ex)
At 9th level, when a crossbowman attacks with a crossbow as a readied action, his target is denied its Dexterity bonus to its AC.
This ability replaces either the favoured enemy or the favoured terrain gained at 9th level
Quick Sniper (Ex)
At 12th level, a crossbowman gains a bonus equal to 1/2 his Ranger level on Stealth checks when sniping. When he is hit with a ranged attack, he can shoot his crossbow at his attacker as an immediate action if it is loaded.
This ability replaces either the favoured enemy or the favoured terrain gained at 12th level
Safe Shot (Ex)
At 15th level, a crossbowman does not provoke attacks of opportunity when making ranged attacks with a crossbow.
This ability replaces either the favoured enemy or the favoured terrain gained at 15th level
Pinpoint Targeting (Ex)
At 18th level, a crossbowman gains Pinpoint Targeting as a bonus feat.
This ability replaces either the favoured enemy or the favoured terrain gained at 18th level
