Sultansworn are guardians of the sands, protecting those of the city of Ul'Dah with upmost devotion.
Sultansworn is an archetype of Paladin, contributed by Reame
Oath’s of Battle (Ex):
At 1st level, a sultansworn has learned how to adapt to a battlefield by lashing out to strike at the enemy’s weak points and then assuming a defensive stance to weather their counter attacks. A Sultansworn may, as a swift action, choose one oath to uphold. Only one oath may be upheld at a time. A Sultansworn may only start upholding and maintaining an oath if they’re currently wielding a shield and a single one handed weapon. If they’re disarmed or sheath their weapons they may maintain any current oaths but immediately lose all effects of their oath if they wield any weapon besides a shield and a one handed weapon. At 5th level a Sultansworn may choose an oath as an immediate action. At 11th level they may choose an oath as a free action once per round even when it’s not their turn.
Sword Oath:
While a Sultansworn has chosen to uphold the sword oath they gain a +1 sacred bonus to attack rolls. The bonus to hit rolls increases by 1 at 4th level and every 4 levels thereafter. (To a maximum of +6 at 20th level). This bonus does not stack with Weapon Training.
Shield Oath:
While a Sultansworn has chosen to uphold the shield oath they gain a +1 sacred bonus to AC At 4th level and every 4 levels thereafter they increase the bonus by 1 to a maximum bonus of 6 at level 20.
Cover the Sultana/Reprisal of the Sworn (Ex):
The Sultansworn is practiced in both defending their charge and retaliating against those who would dare to strike their allies. They gain the usage of cover the sultana while in shield oath and reprisal of the sworn while in sword oath.
Cover the Sultana:
While shield oath is active, the sultansworn gains the benefits of the bodyguard feat. When using that feat, a Sultansworn may decide to grant the same bonus to AC as her shield oath instead of the normal aid another bonus (The replacement AC is also a sacred bonus). At 5th level the sultansworn may move 5ft as part of using bodyguard, which provokes attacks of opportunity for moving as normal, except from the enemy the sultansworn is attempting to provide an AC bonus against. At 10th, 15th and 20th levels, the sultansworn may move an additional 5ft. Movement made in this way counts against her movement for the next turn.
By spending a point from her oath pool as an immediate action, which can be done after she learns the result of the attack, the sultansworn can intercept a successful attack against that ally as an immediate action, taking full damage from that attack and any associated effects (bleed, poison, etc.). A creature cannot benefit from this ability more than once per attack.
Reprisal of the Sworn:
Whenever an enemy successfully damages an ally, until the end of the Sultansworn’s next turn they may add their charisma modifier as a sacred bonus to damage rolls on melee attacks against that enemy.
This ability replaces Cover.
Clemency/Holy Spirit (Su):
A Sultansworn at first level, as part of their training, has learned to adapt their holy favor to either defend their allies or strike at their foes, which grants them an oath pool which can hold a number of points equal to 3 + her paladin level. These oath points are replenished each morning after 8 hours of rest or meditation.
They may call upon this favor to use their Sultansworn abilities. While upholding shield oath they may use Clemency and while upholding sword oath they may use Holy Spirit. If an ability calls for the Sultansworn to spend a use of Sanctity, they may instead spend a point of their Oath pool.
Clemency:
As a standard action, the Sultansworn may spend two points of their Oath pool to heal an ally for 1d6 points of damage. The sultansworn may use this ability on themselves as a swift action and for only a single point from their oath pool. At 3rd level and every odd level thereafter this healing increases by 1d6 to a maximum of 10d6 at level 19.
Holy Spirit:
As a standard action the Sultansworn may spend a point of their Oath pool to direct holy light to damage their foes. The Sultansworn makes a ranged touch attack against a single enemy within close range. If they hit, the target takes 1d6 holy damage. At 3rd level and every odd level thereafter this damage is increased by 1d6 to a maximum of 10d6 at level 19.
This ability replaces Light's Blessing and Endowments. If an ability calls for the Sultansworn to spend a blessing, they may instead spend a point of their Oath pool.
First to the Fray (Ex):
A Sultansworn is taught to speed towards any and all danger, to be best situated to place themselves between it and their charge. Starting at level 4 the Sultansworn may add their charisma modifier instead of their dexterity modifier to their initiative roll. If there is a surprise round they may spend a second use of their Oath pool to act in it even if they otherwise wouldn’t be able to.
This ability replaces Astral
Emergence.
Requisecat (Su):
Sultansworn are universally taught to harness what little magic they have and use it efficiently so that they don’t risk depleting themselves long before a battle is over. At 5th level a Sultansworn may spend a point from their oath pool to make a single melee attack as an attack action.
If the attack hits, the next spell they cast within a number of rounds equal to her charisma modifier is cast at +2 to the Caster level. The caster level boost gives her the ability to augment her spells to a higher degree than she otherwise could, but does not otherwise allow her to cast spells she ordinarily couldn't (For example, she must still wait until level 9 to cast base cost 5 spells or to use 5-cost passives); however, she pays no extra MP for this. Instead, the additional 2 MP that would normally be required to augment the spell is effectively supplied by requisecat. At 9th level and every 4 levels thereafter she boosts her caster level by an additional +1. A sultansworn always requisecats her spells to the maximum amount possible, as overcharging spells in this way is imprecise.
Requisecat only pays for the additional cost, the sultansworn still pays the MP costs she normally would. For example, at 7th level, the sultansworn can spend 7MP to cast Cure, however the spell would be cast as though she had a caster level of 9 and behave as if she had spent 9MP to cast it.
This ability replaces Luminous Adept normally gained at 4th level.
Oath of Courage (Su):
At 5th level, a Sultansworn is bolstered to keep their emotions in check so as to not let down their charge. While upholding an Oath a paladin becomes immune to fear (magical or otherwise). Allies within 10ft gain a +2 morale bonus on saving throws against fear effects.
This ability replaces Aura of Courage.
Armored Defense:
At 6th level a Sultansworn a sultansworn gains DR 1/— when wearing light armor, DR 2/— when wearing medium armor, and DR 3/— when wearing heavy armor. At his 11th, 16th and 20th levels, this damage reduction increases by 1 (light), 2 (medium), 3 (heavy). This damage reduction stacks with that provided by adamantine armor, but not with other forms of damage reduction.
This ability replaces Astral Resilience.
Passage of Arms/Fight or Flight (Su):
At 7th level a Sultansworn becomes more adept at defending those they devote themselves to from harm as well as striking at those who would deal them harm. They gain the use of Passage of Arms while in shield oath and Spirits within while in sword oath.
Passage of Arms:
As a standard action the Sultansworn may spend two uses of their Oath Pool to create a 15ft cone behind them. Allies within this cone gain either the protected or shelled condition chosen by the Sultansworn. The Sultansworn may maintain this cone for an amount of rounds equal to their charisma modifier. While maintaining this cone the Sultansworn may not willingly move or use any actions, but may use Cover the Sultana against any attack against an ally within the cone without moving, though they must still spend an attack of opportunity to do so as normal. At the start of their turn they may chose to stop maintaining the cone and regain use of their actions or change which condition the cone gives. At 11th level and every 4 levels thereafter the range of the cone increases by 5 ft.
Fight or Flight:
As a swift action the Sultansworn may spend two uses of their Oath Pool to increase their weapon damage by 2d6 for a number of rounds equal to half of their Paladin Level. This damage increases to 3d6 at 11th level and 4d6 at 15th level. This extra damage dice is not multiplied on a critical hit or when using vital strike feats or similar effects.
This ability replaces Righteous Bane.
Shield Lob/Intervene (Ex):
At level 9, as a Sultansworn’s foes grow more dangerous and more numerous, they learn more about how to keep their enemies focused on them, and engage them far faster. A Sultansworn in shield oath gains the use of Shield Lob and a Sultansworn in sword oath gains the use of Intervene. This ability replaces Paladin’s Blessing.
Shield Lob:
As a standard action the Sultansworn may spend a single use of their Oath pool to make a special shield bash against an enemy within 15ft. Treat this attack as a melee attack originating from the Sultansworn’s direction. If the attack hits it deals no damage but the enemy is forced to make a Will save (DC 10+ half the Sultansworn’s paladin level + their Charisma modifier) or gain the antagonised condition for a number of rounds equal to her charisma modifier.
Intervene:
When the Sultansworn makes a charge move they may spend a use of their Oath pool to add 10ft to their base speed when they charge and allow themselves to ignore difficult terrain that might be in their way, though they still provoke attacks of opportunity for their movement as normal.
This replaces Light's Apostle.
Oath of Resolve (Ex):
At 10th level, a Sultansworn’s mind becomes so focused on protecting their charge that they become far harder to distract. The Sultansworn becomes immune to charm and confusion effects and each ally within 10 feet of them gains a +2 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and confusion effects.
This replaces Aura of Resolve.
Oath of Kinship (Su):
At 13th level, while they are in sword oath or shield oath, the sultansworn, as a move action, may spend a point from their oath pool. For a number of rounds equal to their charisma modifier, the sultansworn loses the benefits of her current oath and all allies within 15ft of the sultansworn gain the benefits of her current oath for as long as they remain within 15ft. After this ability has expired, the sultansworn must wait three rounds before using it again.
This ability replaces aura manipulation.
Hallowed Ground/Confiteor (Su):
At 17th level a Sultansworn’s holy magic has been focused to such a degree that they have mastered how to turn it both in to protect themselves or push it outwards to strike at their foes with devastating consequences. A Sultansworn upholding shield oath gains access to Hallowed Ground while a Sultansworn upholding Sword oath gains access to Confiteor.
Hallowed Ground:
By spending two uses of their Oath pool as a standard action the Sultansworn may gain both the protect and shelled conditions for a number of rounds equal to their charisma modifier. After this effect ends the Sultansworn may not activate it again for three rounds.
Confiteor:
While casting a spell that has been overcharged by requisecat, the sultansworn may spend a point from her oath pool as a free action to pay no MP for the spell. Instead, the spell is treated as if an amount of MP equal to half her paladin level + her charisma modifier had been spent on it, to a maximum of her caster level, which requisecat then overcharges normally. The sultansworn may still choose to spend MP while using this ability, such as to cast spells or make use of passive augmentations that this “free” MP would not inherently be enough to cover.
This replaces Soul of Sanctity.
Endless Champion (Ex):
When a Sultansworn reaches 20th level, they have become a battery of tireless light that protects their charge tirelessly and without end. The Sultansworn no longer needs to eat, drink, or sleep. Additionally, once every 30 minutes, the sultansworn regains one oath point, even if she is not otherwise resting or meditating.
This replaces Champion of All.
