Most monks focus on varied styles and combat techniques to get them through combat. Others, known as Pugilists, lean heavily on pure instinct and outputting as many punches as they can
Pugilist is an archetype of Monk
Weapon Training (Ex)
At 1st level, monks gain the weapon training ability of the warrior, however pugilists may only choose either the monk weapon group or the close weapon group.
Additionally, the monk uses his total monk level as his warrior level.
This ability replaces fuse styles gained at 2nd level and combat style mastery gained at 5th level.
Flurry of Blows (Ex)
Starting at 2nd level, a monk can make a flurry of blows as a full-attack action.
When doing so, he may make one additional attack, taking a –2 penalty on all of his attack rolls, as if using the Two-Weapon Fighting feat. These attacks can be any combination of unarmed strikes and attacks with a weapon from his chosen weapon group (he does not need to use two weapons to utilize this ability).
At 8th level, the monk can make two additional attacks when he uses flurry of blows, as if using Greater Two-Weapon Fighting (even if the monk does not meet the prerequisites for the feat.)
When using flurry of blows, a monk gains his third attack at 14th level, not when his base attack bonus reaches +11.
A monk applies his full Strength bonus to his damage rolls for all successful attacks made with flurry of blows, whether the attacks are made with an off-hand or with a weapon wielded in both hands. A monk may substitute disarm, sunder, and trip combat maneuvers for unarmed attacks as part of a flurry of blows. A monk cannot use any weapon other than an unarmed strike or a special monk weapon as part of a flurry of blows. A monk with natural weapons cannot use such weapons as part of a flurry of blows, nor can he make natural attacks in addition to his flurry of blows attacks.
Ki gain works differently with Flurry of Blows, with the following adjustments:
Yeah!: If the monk reduces a foe to 0 or fewer hit points with a melee attack, he gains 2 points of ki.
Hit: If the monk successfully hits a foe with a melee attack, he gains 1 points of ki.
Miss: If the monk misses a foe with a melee attack, he gains no ki using Flurry of Blows
This ability replaces bonus style feats gained at 2nd, 8th and 14th level.
Bonus Combat Feats
At 3rd level and every 4 levels thereafter, a monk gains a bonus combat feat in addition to those gained from normal advancement. The warrior must meet the prerequisites of the selected bonus combat feat.
Upon reaching 7th level and every 4 levels thereafter, a monk can choose to learn a new combat feat in place of any combat feat (Other than his bonus style feats) he has already learned. In effect, the monk loses the previous combat feat in exchange for the new one. The old feat cannot be one that was used as a prerequisite for another feat, prestige class, or other ability, nor can it be a bonus feat that was granted to him specifically (Such as combat style master). A monk can only change one feat at any given level, and must choose whether or not to swap the feat at the time he gains a new bonus combat feat for the level. (The feat he changes to can serve as the prerequisite for his new bonus combat feat, or vice versa).
This ability modifies bonus combat feats at 5th level.
Enhanced Weapon Skill (Ex)
At 4th level, the monk’s skill with weaponry increases. When wielding a weapon from his chosen weapon group, the monk may use his unarmed strike damage instead of the base damage for that weapon. If the weapon normally deals more damage than this, its damage is unchanged. This ability does not affect any other aspect of the weapon. The monk can decide to use the weapon’s base damage instead of his unarmed strike damage, but this must be declared before the attack roll is made.
This ability replaces the bonus style feats gained at 4th, 8th, 12th, 16th, 20th level.
