Most pugilists are disciplined warriors, training their minds and bodies to physical and martial perfection. A thug is not. In place of martial prowess, a thug chooses brutality. In place of physical perfection, a thug chooses to inflict fear. Though they are skilled with their fists, thugs prefer to use whatever objects they have to hand to inflict damage.

Thug is an archetype of the black belt class.

Thug Style (Ex)

A thug gains catch off-guard as a bonus feat. He is not proficient with shields.

This ability modifies the black belt’s armour proficiencies.

Improvised Training (Ex)

A thug is skilled at fighting with improvised weapons. A thug uses his unarmed strike damage when fighting with an improvised weapon, unless the improvised weapon would inherently do more. A thug treats improvised weapons as weapons from the close weapon group and may use abilities that require him to make unarmed strikes with improvised weapons (including brawling techniques from battlefield brawling) as though he were using an unarmed weapon (improvised weapons are not considered "true" unarmed strikes). Additionally, thugs may deal nonlethal damage with improvised weapons without penalty.

However, when performing combat arts, the thug always uses his *actual* unarmed strike damage, not the damage his improvised weapon deals if they would be different (Such as by using Shikigami Style).

This ability replaces the bonus combat feat or athletic talent gained at 3rd level.

Street Tough (Ex)

The thug gains Enforcer as a bonus feat even if he does not meet the prerequisites. Additionally, the thug may use his Strength modifier in place of Charisma to determine his intimidate bonus.

This ability replaces martial cunning.

Biggest Guy In The Room (Ex)

Physical stature may be important, but having a larger presence than your victim works just as well. At 2nd level, whenever the thug uses or is the subject of the intimidate skill, or would be subject to a fear-based effect dependent on size, he is considered one size category larger than he really is.

At levels 8th, 13th and 18th, the thug is treated as an additional size category larger.

This ability replaces Focus.

Brawling Talents (Ex)

A thug must choose Provoke as his 2nd level brawling talent. Additionally, a thug may take the Provoke-All talent at 8th level, rather than 12th.

Trash Talker (Ex)

A thug knows that the best way to throw your opponent off his game is to piss ‘em off. At 2nd level, whenever an enemy fails their saving throw against the thug’s provoke ability (Including when he uses provoke-all), they remain provoked for an additional round. At 6th level and every 4 levels thereafter, the opponent remains provoked for an additional round (To a maximum of 6 rounds). An opponent cannot be targeted by provoke while provoked in this way.

Additionally, opponents “smaller” than the thug for the purposes of intimidation take a cumulative -2 penalty on the saving throw against provoke.

This ability replaces martial flurry (Two weapon fighting).

Scathing Mockery (Ex)

At 4th level, the thug knows exactly the right thing to say to draw attention to himself. He gains Ability Focus (Provoke) as a bonus feat, increasing the DC of his Provoke ability (and Provoke-All, should he have it) by 2. At 7th level and every four levels thereafter, the DC of his Provoke ability increases by an additional one.

This ability replaces slugger punch.

Exploit Anger (Ex)

At 5th level, the thug gains a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls, a +1 dodge bonus to AC and a +1 morale bonus on saving throws against creatures he has provoked. At 9th and 13th level, these bonuses increase by an additional +1.

This ability replaces footwork.

Imposing Demeanor (Ex)

At 6th level, a thug gains a bonus to Intimidate checks equal to half his black belt level and can use Intimidate to demoralize as a swift action.

This ability replaces damage reduction.

Improvised Pugilism (Ex)

Pugilism applies to the thug’s improvised weapons, in addition to the thug’s unarmed strikes, but otherwise functions as normal.

This ability modifies pugilism.

Intimidating Provocation (Ex)

According to one well-known saying, fear leads to anger. However, in the thug’s experience, the opposite is actually true. At 8th level, creatures that the thug has provoked can be inflicted with fear effects as if they were not immune to fear (either because they actually have a specified fear immunity or simply because they are immune to mind-affecting effects).

This ability replaces martial flurry (greater two-weapon fighting).
