Some beastmasters learn how to tame specific families of monsters rather than any and all they come across. Sacrificing versatility for improved prowess with those creatures. Species Savants are specialist Beastmasters.
Species Savant is an archetype for Beastmaster.
This Archetype modifies or replaces all features that involve using your Menagerie; Animal Companion, Menagerie, Animal Focus and later improved features (i.e. Extended Menagerie)
Species Specialist
At 1st level, the Species Savant chooses one family of creatures from the options below. The Species Savant can only choose from that family for their starting Animal Companion, and can only tame creatures from that Family (For example, Feline Species Savants can tame Tigers, but not Bears). Creatures of the chosen specialisation can be tamed if they are animals or vermin. Magical Beasts cannot be tamed without the Improved Specialist class feature
In addition, you and your menagerie gain a +1 bonus to Attack Rolls, for each animal in your menagerie that comes from your chosen family.
Arachnids
Spiders, Scorpions, etc
Picking the Arachnid family gives all the chosen creatures +2 to dexterity at 1st level and every 5th level (starting at level 5) after, for a maximum of +10 at level 20.
Canines
Wolves, Dogs, etc
Picking the Canine family gives all the chosen creatures +2 to strength at 1st level and every 5th level (starting at level 5) after, for a maximum of +10 at level 20.
Felines
Big cats, etc
Picking the Feline family gives all the chosen creatures +2 to Dexterity at 1st level and every 5th level (starting at level 5) after, for a maximum of +10 at level 20.
Reptiles
Komodo dragons, lizards, etc
Picking the Reptilian family gives all the chosen creatures +2 to Constitution at 1st level and every 5th level (starting at level 5) after, for a maximum of +10 at level 20.
Fowl
Chicken, Swans, Geese etc
Picking the Fowl family gives all the chosen creatures +2 to Intelligence at 1st level and every 5th level (starting at level 5) after, for a maximum of +10 at level 20.
Vermin
Rats, Insects, etc
Picking the Vermin family gives all the chosen creatures +2 to Constitution at 1st level and every 5th level (starting at level 5) after, for a maximum of +10 at level 20.
These bonuses are added on to the base progression of Animal Companions.
This modifies Animal Companion and Menagerie
Specialist Focus (Ex)
Animal focus functions the same, but only applies to creatures of the chosen family.
This modifies Animal Focus
Improved Specialist
At 7th level, the Species Savant unlocks a second family, related to the first. This family counts as a chosen family for all Beastmaster features, and requires specific families to be chosen in the first place.
Amphibians
Requires Reptile Family - Frogs,Newts etc
These creatures count as Reptiles for the purpose of Species Specialist modifiers.
Behemoths
Requires Canines family - Kuza beasts, behemoths, etc
These creatures count as canines for the purpose of Species Specialist modifiers.
Chocobos
Requires Fowl family - Different colour Chocobos
These creatures count as Fowl for the purpose of Species Specialist modifiers.
Magical Cats
Requires Cat Family - Gaelicats and Coeurls etc
These creatures count as Felines for the purpose of Species Specialist modifiers.
Toises
Requires Reptile Family - Adamantoise etc
These creatures count as Reptiles for the purpose of Species Specialist modifiers.
Flans and Blades
Requires Vermin Family - Red flan, blue flan, epaaj, espada, takouba etc
These creatures count as vermin for the purpose of Species Specialist modifiers.
Mantises
Requires Arachnid family - biding mantis, death claw, rage claw, antlion, grand mantis etc
These creatures count as arachnids for the purposes of Species Specialist modifiers.
